What is high potential and gifted education?
Inspire – High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.
We do this through:
- effective teaching strategies like enrichment, extension and acceleration
- tailored support during lessons that stretch, challenge and inspire
- access to a wide range of opportunities both within and beyond our school.
Our high potential and gifted education opportunities
Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.
At Marrar Public School, we include high potential and gifted education in everything we do. We encourage our students to think deeply, be creative, take on leadership, and keep learning every day.
Teachers look at what each student needs and use teaching methods that help students do their best and learn more. We offer different programs to help students who want extra challenges or to move faster in their learning.
Our classrooms are friendly and safe places where students feel like they belong. We encourage them to try new ideas, be creative, and work well with others.
We give students activities that let them make choices, connect to real life, and think in new ways.
Our teachers keep learning new skills so they can support all students, especially those who are gifted or talented.
Our staff take part in regular training to make sure they use the latest teaching methods that are based on research.
Students have many chances to get involved in activities such as:
- Peer mentoring
- Student leadership roles
- Learn to swim programs
- Sport programs
- School performances
- Cultural and community activities
- Excursions and special visitors to the school
- Programs that promote wellbeing and inclusion
- PSSA and the Representative School Sport Pathways provides opportunities for our students to trial and compete in sports across regional, state and national stages. This helps to promote discipline, hard work and cooperation.
- Our partnerships with other schools (in particular our fellow small schools) provides our students with the ability to access more learning opportunities, share resources, and participate in group activities that help them grow both academically and socially.
- Statewide/NSW Department of Education level support is available for our high potential and gifted students.
